Microsoft broke my Linux!

The title may seem extreme, but it's true. When I installed Zune for working with Windows Mobile devices it set up a file association that broke my Wubi install of Ubuntu! Apparently Zune uses the file extension of *.MBR for live audio streaming.

This really confuses me, why would Microsoft of all companies use *.MBR for something other than boot records. For goodness sake, they invented *.MBR for boot records! Almost makes you wonder if they did it on purpose, to cause problem with Wubi installations (just kidding). Anyway, for now I've had to remove Zune in hopes that will fix my Ubuntu and JoliOS installations that were both affected by the file extension association change.

I'm planning to drop Zune in to my Windows 8 consumer preview installation so that will be on another drive and won't touch my MBR files. I'm hoping that they weren't totally ruined by the association change.
