I've recently purchased two different iPod covers and still, I don't like either of them. They don't fit right, the iPod doesn't feel as small, etc. I just can't stand the covers. Something about covering up something that Apple engineers spent hours making look pretty just doesn't seem right. Honestly, how much good are they anyway?
If you have a hard cover it'll protect from scratches and be easier to slip in and out of pockets, but drop protection. If you have a soft cover you'll have a higher chance of not cracking the screen the first time you drop it, but forget just whipping it out of your pocket. If you spend a bunch of money and get one that's soft on the inside and hard on the outside, you just spent a bunch of money which could have gone towards a screen repair or your next iPod plus, you have no clue if it'll actually work till you drop the iPod.
My iPod Touch has already taken one small fall with no harm done so I'm prone to just leave the cover off for day to day usage. Maybe if I take a trip where I know I'll use it more because I'm in the car a lot I'll put the cover (soft cover mind ye) on, but I like the shiny back of my iPod to much to cover it up.
Oh, and whats with screen covers? They never stay on long enough to be of any good. Mine just peel right off within a day (and yes, I did put them on properly). I really can't see their use either as anything hard's just going to go right through them and anything light enough to not go through them most likely wouldn't scratch your screen anyway.
So there's my rant about iPod accessories, what'd you think? ↓ Give me a comment and let me know! ↓
