Haworthia granulata

H. granulata, Appelsfontein

Haworthia granulata Marl.

granulata: granulate.

H. granulata is species from Ceres Karoo, where it is quite widely distributed. It grows in high rocky mountainous areas as well as in flat amongs small bushes and stones. It is usually caulescent and forming tall erect stems. It offsetts slowly.

Distribution map

H. granulata grows mainly around Ceres and Tanqua Karoo. Very strenge locality is Droekloof, at Touws Rivier, plants are stemless and resembles almost H. venosa or H. tessellata. This place is the Southern most known locality. There is a record from E. Laingsburg from Oskopvlakte and more to the East. This form was described by Hayashi as H. schoemannii. It will be discussed here under this name.

It is not widely cultivated plant, may be because not much material is available from nurseries. In cultivation it grows like H. venosa or H. tessellata - if you have good drained substrate and water it not much, it grows fine. Propagation can be made by offsetts or seed.
