Survey Confirms Smoking-Radon Link

A study conducted by the Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland and based on the examination of 7,000 lung cancer deaths across Europe has added further proof to the argument that cigarette smokers face a greater risk of developing lung cancer from exposure to high concentrations of radon than do non-smokers.

According to the study, the risk among smokers is an astonishing twenty five times higher.

But simply quitting smoking doesn’t automatically lower one’s risk. Lungs damaged by cigarettes take a long time to heal, and their owners face an elevated risk of developing lung cancer from radon exposure for years after they toss the habit.
